BMW TURBO UPGRADE IN CONNECTICUT, MORE POWER, MORE SOUND, DONE RIGHT AT TYSAUTOWORKS PERFORMANCE

If you own a BMW in Connecticut and you've been thinking about a turbo upgrade, you already know the potential sitting under your hood. The B58, N55, S55, S58 these are world-class engines that BMW intentionally restricted from the factory. A turbo upgrade doesn't just add power. It transforms the entire character of the car.

At Tysautoworks Performance in Meriden, CT, turbo upgrades are one of our most requested performance services. We've built turbocharged BMWs across every platform from street-focused bolt-on upgrades to full big turbo builds making serious power numbers. If you're ready to unlock what your BMW is actually capable of, this is where Connecticut enthusiasts come.

What Is a BMW Turbo Upgrade and What Does It Do?

From the factory, BMW fits its turbocharged engines with turbochargers sized for efficiency, emissions compliance, and smooth daily driving. They're excellent turbos for stock power levels. But they're also a ceiling and for most BMW enthusiasts, that ceiling is frustratingly low.

A turbo upgrade replaces the factory unit with a larger, higher-flowing turbocharger capable of producing significantly more boost pressure and moving more air through the engine. The result is more power across the entire RPM range, faster spool at lower RPM than you'd expect from a larger turbo, and a driving experience that makes the stock car feel permanently slow by comparison.

Combined with supporting modifications a proper tune, upgraded intercooler, intake, downpipe, and charge pipe a turbo upgrade on a BMW B58 or S55 can push power numbers that rival purpose-built supercars at a fraction of the cost.

BMW Turbo Upgrade Options at Tysautoworks Performance

Stage 1 Turbo Upgrade — Drop-In Performance

The most accessible entry point into turbo upgrades. Drop-in turbos use the same mounting points and connections as the factory unit no custom fabrication required but feature upgraded internals, larger compressor wheels, and higher flow capacity.

On the B58 engine, drop-in turbo upgrades from brands like Pure Turbos, Vargas Turbo Technologies, and BMS consistently push power numbers from the stock 382 horsepower to 500–550+ horsepower on a proper tune. For Connecticut BMW owners who want significantly more power without converting to a full big turbo setup, a drop-in upgrade is the sweet spot between performance and drivability.

Stage 2 Big Turbo Build — Maximum Power

For Connecticut BMW owners who want to build a serious performance car, a big turbo conversion is where the real numbers live. Big turbo builds on the B58 and S55 are capable of 600, 700, even 800+ wheel horsepower on the right supporting setup.

Big turbo builds require more supporting work than a drop-in swap upgraded fuel system components, reinforced drivetrain, appropriate intercooler sizing, and a custom tune developed specifically for your setup. At Tysautoworks Performance, we build these packages from the ground up so every component works together correctly.

Turbo Replacement With Upgrade

If your BMW's factory turbo is already failing underboost codes, blue smoke, oil consumption, loss of power — a turbo replacement is the perfect opportunity to step up to a performance unit at the same time. You're already doing the labor. Upgrading while the car is apart is the intelligent choice.

BMW Platforms We Build Turbo Upgrades For in Connecticut

BMW M340i / M440i / M240i — B58 Engine The B58 is one of the most upgrade-friendly BMW engines ever built. The platform has exceptional aftermarket support and responds dramatically to turbo upgrades. Connecticut M340i and M440i owners looking for 500+ horsepower have found the right shop.

BMW 335i / 435i / 535i — N55 Engine The N55 has a massive enthusiast following in Connecticut and nationwide. Drop-in turbo upgrades on the N55 push power numbers the factory never intended while maintaining daily drivability. We've built N55s from street builds to full track cars.

BMW M3 / M4 — S55 Engine The S55 twin-turbo in the F80 M3 and F82 M4 is already a high-performance unit from the factory. Turbo upgrades on the S55 push these cars into supercar territory. We've built S55 engines with upgraded turbos and supporting modifications that produce numbers that embarrass cars costing three times as much.

BMW M3 / M4 — S58 Engine The S58 in the G80 M3 and G82 M4 is BMW's most advanced performance engine to date. The aftermarket is developing rapidly and Tysautoworks Performance stays current with the latest S58 turbo upgrade options available to Connecticut BMW owners.

What Supporting Modifications Does a Turbo Upgrade Require?

A turbo upgrade doesn't exist in isolation. To safely and reliably run a larger turbocharger, supporting modifications are either recommended or required depending on the power level:

Tune — Always Required No turbo upgrade should run without a proper tune. The engine management system needs to be calibrated for the new turbo's boost curve, fueling requirements, and spool characteristics. At Tysautoworks Performance we work with trusted tune providers for every platform we build.

Upgraded Charge Pipe — Strongly Recommended The factory plastic charge pipe is adequate at stock power. Under elevated boost from a larger turbo, it becomes a liability. An upgraded aluminum charge pipe with quality couplers and clamps is a necessary supporting modification for any serious turbo upgrade.

Upgraded Intercooler — Recommended for Stage 1, Required for Stage 2 More boost means more heat. A larger intercooler keeps intake air temperatures under control and protects the engine from heat-related power loss and knock. Stage 2 and big turbo builds require an upgraded intercooler it's not optional.

Upgraded Downpipe — Recommended The factory downpipe's catalytic converter creates backpressure that limits what the turbo can ultimately produce. An upgraded downpipe catless or high-flow catted allows the larger turbo to breathe freely and produce its full potential.

Upgraded Intake — Recommended A high-flow intake feeds the larger turbo with more cold air, improving spool response and maximizing the power available from the upgrade.

Fueling Upgrades — Required for High Power Builds Big turbo builds at 600+ horsepower require upgraded fuel system components larger injectors, upgraded fuel pump, port injection systems to deliver the fuel the engine needs at elevated power levels.

At Tysautoworks Performance, we assess your power goals and build the correct supporting package for your specific setup. We don't sell upgrades you don't need and we don't let customers run setups that aren't properly supported.
